Oriental rugs

Oriental rugs have been around for years and I feel that the older they are the better! Mainly because then they have a story to tell, why and who tired this carpet out?
This passion of mine was rekindled when I visited Liberties in London. They have so many carpets pilled so high! It’s a moths dream. (and mine.)

Hallways

Since moving into my new house we have been planning how to redecorate and organise the hallway. It isn't the biggest hallway so we will need to be clever with the design do it functions effectively. My main tips or a hallway is to keep it as light as possible! What I mean by this that you need to balance out how much dark and light furnishing there is. For example if u have dark flooring, buy light furniture and vis versa, to keep the light open feel.
Below are some of my ideal hallways and I hope they get you excited and inspired to redesign your hallway.
Storage is the most important but also the most difficult aspect to a hallway. Therefore, I hope that these pictures will help to decorate your hallway.

Not only storage but also flooring changes the look completely. This could be tiles, rugs, boards, anything. My personal favorite is tiles or a rug just like the one shown in the third picture down.

Half painted walls

It is very rare that I follow the rules or produce something without a twist, making this wall decorating idea perfect for me! I have already painted a section of my wall a different colour, making this style to my liking.
Recently I have been seeing more post of walls pained with rough uneven edges. This interests me more as it softens the room and creates a gentle blend, rather than the bold straight lines on other designs.

Some people have taken this trend to the next level and have created dynamic geometric designs across their rooms. (pretty cool)

Paradisco Productions - Posters

I've recently stumbled across these amazing posters from PARADISCO PRODUCTIONS which was created by Tina Rud Pedersen. Her love for fashion, illustration and micro-organic shapes has created these amazing patterns created from sketches and ink paintings. I adore the freedom and randomness of the poster so much i couldn't help but share it with you. The natural shapes, contrast from b/w to pastel to bright colours, catches my imagination making me want to buy all of her work for each room of my house.
I think that these designs can be great inspiration for a fun DIY of flicking and splattering paint over canvases or even curtains creating your own pattern of nature.

Pineapple trend

Simply: Pineapples

After painting my room I had to wash the brushes, whilst doing this I couldn't resist taking a photo of the lovely colour the water turned.
(Is this normal?)
Check out my previous post to see how I painted my wall.

DIY room stencilling

Aloha,
For a long time i have been pondering over how to decorate my room. I've been searching pinterest, tumblr, blogs for any inspiration, but have had trouble sticking with one.
Finally this rut has ended and i have chosen what I'm going to do! Oh yeah!

DIY
The finished design looks as shown in the image below. Smaller tightly packed triangles at the top right which enlarge and separate further to the bottom left.

To create this you will need:
  • Paint (i used Dulux 'Bongo Jazz 3')
  • Low tack masking tape (make sure it is low tack so not to rip off any paint that's already there)
  • Paint brushes
  • Sponges
  • Stencils
  • Ruler
I ended up using a sponge as i didn't like the streaks created by the paintbrushes.

Next, decide where to place the triangles and what size to make them. I'm pretty impatient so i gave up measuring all the triangles and got stuck in creating different sizes and proportions. However, I would advice measuring them out if you are a bit OCD as it will start to really annoy you seeing the slight difference everyday ;)

Now dab on the paint as it gives a more even finish without paintbrush marks!!
When the paint has dried peal off the masking tape and voila TRIANGLES.

Illustration inspiration

Hello

Exams are finally over and I can now relax with summer approaching! Since I have got more time on my hands I have been visiting art universities and getting inspired by the work. Recently I have really been inspired by Illustration. I enjoy the simplicity and quirkiness of the sketches and bright or pastel colours.
Below are some of the people that have inspired me the most, and I hope they do the same for you.
:D

My first inspiration is Ruby Taylor, she is a London illustrator who produces editorial illustrations, murals, t-shirt designs, stationery and prints. As you can see in my images i adore the fruit, just makes me want to eat them.

Another artist that has inspired me is David Shillinglaw. His designs are more cartoon based but i adore the quirkiness and how unique and original his style is.
